"When we study churches in Art History, I feel God more than I ever have before." -Anonymous (Post Secret; Confessions on Life, Death, and God by Frank Warren, 114)
Although I'm not religious, when I see breathtaking cathedrals, mosques, temples, pagodas, and other ancient and historic places of worship I understand why people may have been drawn to their faiths for centuries. But these and other religious arts are not the only things that make up Art History. The ideal beauty and realism accomplished by anonymous Ancient Greek and Roman sculptors, the amazing details painted by the Flemish, the wondrous Romantic Landscapes portrayed by perhaps my favorite artist, J.M.W. Turner, all of these and many more are all reasons that I love Art History. And lastly, to see these creations myself, to stand before them or inside them in awe, admiring and understanding their significance is an experience I'll never forget, and want to repeat as often as I can, perhaps until I've seen everything.
